THE BLESSING OF EDEN
Eden represents the culmination of so many special dogs I've been honored to include in my breeding program. This Shea daughter most closely resembles her father, but is actually a better version of him. There is no doubt he stamped her head, chest, rear, neck and topline...but she has an even stronger front than her dad, and is better balanced with a slightly shorter back. As a Maybell daughter, she also brings the best of Bowie and Moxie to her pedigree, and Bowie's stamp is no more evident than in her happy, bouncy and carefree temperament. This girl is an incredible athlete, who leaps the stone walls in my yard with no hesitation or effort and chases butterflies with reckless abandon.
Eden finished her championship at 9 months of age with 4 majors, all owner-handled. She returned to the ring as a 13 month old and quickly racked up some big breed wins over much more mature specials. Recognized for her balance, gorgeous movement and lovely headpiece, Eden quickly earned her Grand Championship in four weekends of shows. Shown sparingly through the rest of the year, Eden earned many more Breed wins and capped off her amazing year with a BOB win at the Mid-Atlantic Greater Swiss Specialty in December and her first Working Group placement that day. Eden finished 2015 as the #8 GSMD in the country, all before turning 2 years of age.
In 2016, Eden was shown sparingly, as she took a good part of the year off to whelp and raise her first litter of puppies. Still, she set the ring on fire, finishing the year again as the #8 GSMD in the country, with 2 more BISS wins! Eden was also the People's Choice at the 2016 National Specialty Top 20 competition (her father won it twice!).
In 2017, Eden took the first part of the year off to raise her second litter of puppies, born February 2017. She returned to the ring in April to take BOSS at the Southbound Specialty. In May, just three months after whelping her litter, Eden went to the National where she again earned an AOM and won the Top 20!!! After taking a 3 month break, Eden returned to the ring for the C&P Specialty in October, with an entry of 61 Swissies, and earned her 4th BISS win to date! She also won a Group 2 in a very large Working Group...her fourth group placement of the year. With very limited showing (15 shows in 2017), Eden has taken the breed more than half the time she's been shown and has placed in the group at a quarter of the shows she's been too -- not bad for a GSMD girl!
Only her second time out this year (2018), after raising her 3rd litter, Eden headed to the National Specialty in Utah. This amazing girl earned her 5th BISS win at the GSMDCA Regional Specialty over a huge entry, as well as 1st in Brood Bitch with her WB/BOW and Best Puppy Winning offspring. And then at the National Specialty, Eden took Select Bitch and BOBOH, as well as 3rd in the Brood Bitch class. Shown only 3 weekends in 2018, Eden still managed to secure a Top 20 spot for the 4th year in a row...all before turning 5 years of age.
Eden tragically passed away on November 8th, 2018 from complications of Bloat/GDV. Although she survived the surgery and the initial prognosis was promising, she did not rebound as anticipated. After a few days, she began to crash as she had become septic. Although the outlook was grim, we took her into surgery as that was her only shot. Unfortunately, the surgeon discovered that the lining of her stomach up into her esophagus had become necrotic and there was nothing that could be done. This was the single most devastating day of my life and I continue to grieve the profound loss of a dog who was never just a dog -- she had become my soulmate, the yin to my yang. I miss her smiling face, her whipsaw tail that never stopped wagging, her warm breath on my ear every night. Eden was the embodiment of pure joy and love. Although her time on this earth was unfairly cut way too short, I am only grateful that I never spent a single day or night apart from this incredible girl. We had so much yet to do, so much to look forward to. But those plans will never come to pass. Eden taught me to live and love every day to its fullest, and I will try to do that in her memory. And to look for little glimmers of her in the beautiful offspring I'm blessed to share.
Fly free, my sweet and beautiful butterfly.
